Last weekend, my daughter, Channing, and I celebrated her birthday in the Pocono Mountains at the premier Akwaaba inn. I first learned of Akwaaba when I won a trip to their Brooklyn location in November 2019 from the AARP Sisters essay contest. We specifically chose The Mansion at Noble Lane for the supremely qualified resort experience.
Before I elaborate on the birthday celebration, I must provide details about the mansion, the former F.W. Woolworth country estate located on 22-acres in the lake region of Northeast Pennsylvania. Some of you remember Woolworth’s, the five-and-dime store before the Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Stores took over as the place to pick up inexpensive goodies.
Is anyone watching The Gilded Age on HBO Max? The series is a quick reminder of opulence during an economic boom in the early 19th century. You can see the craftsmanship and spare of no expense from the original construction in 1903.
The once exclusive 70-room estate is now a restored upscale boutique bed and breakfast featuring 14 guest rooms, a wing devoted to spa services, and a tea room.
Upon our arrival for the weekend stay, the innkeeper, Aesha, greeted us and showed us our room on the third floor. I ordered an arrangement of pink and purple flowers for the room for my daughter, Channing.
After settling into our room, we mosied downstairs to enjoy late afternoon refreshments. The turkey or veggie chili soup with cornbread is perfect for a frigid wintry day.
We planned to enjoy the many amenities offered at the Mansion at Noble Lane. First up, our complimentary breakfast promptly at 9:00 am. The Bed & Breakfast owner Monique led her guests through a trivia game for who knew the most songs with the word love.
In Leaves, the Tea Room, we enjoyed a light bisque soup and a spring salad. And let’s not forget the must-have menu items for afternoon tea, finger sandwiches with scones and pastries.
We took advantage of the YOUtopia Spa services for hot stone massages and pedicures.
With February being Black History month, the chef served southern cuisine for dinner at 7:00 pm.
