Hello, Beauties🌸 Today’s post title, Is It Possible To Reduce Your Risk Of Breast Cancer?
By now we all associate the pink ribbon for Breast Cancer Awareness. According to online sources, the 1991 inception of the pink ribbon distribution started when given to all breast cancer survivors and participants of the Komen New York City Race for the Cure.
The campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness for October gets an A+. However, the staggering statistics from the American Institute for Cancer Research estimates that 38% of the U.S. breast cancer cases are preventable. How? There are modifiable habits such as healthy eating, a healthy weight, being physically active, limiting alcohol, and be smoke-free. That’s over 89,00 cases each year that never have to happen.
How about the exceptional promise of survival if caught early? Hence the massive yearly pink push to get that mammogram. And perform monthly breast exams. There are now nearly 3 million breast cancer survivors in the United States who are living longer, healthier lives than ever before. My mother is a ten-year double mastectomy survivor.
There is emerging limited research evidence indicates eating more of these foods may reduce risk:
🎀 Non-starchy vegetables – some – asparagus, celery, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, onion, carrots, and brussels sprouts
🎀 Foods containing carotenoids – broccoli, kale, spinach, collards, corn, turnip greens, green peas, and green beans
🎀 Dairy products – low-fat, calcium-rich milk, fortified soy milk, yogurt, and cheese
🎀 Diets high in calcium – almonds, artichokes, baked/kidney beans, broccoli, chickpeas, cinnamon, edamame, and oranges
We know the non-modifiable risks such a family history or carrying the defective BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 gene. Because of the bravery of Angelina Jolie, we understand better about this defect. The movie star proactively underwent a mastectomy to lower her chances of developing breast cancer.
Although you cannot prevent cancer, prevention is vital with healthy habits. We have the power in our hands to schedule that mammogram and do monthly exams. Beauties, go schedule that mammogram if you haven’t already done so this year, let’s do all we can do to reduce our risk of Breast Cancer.
Thanks for reading. Have a fabulous week🎀
