WordCamp Philly 2015
June is the perfect time for me to re-visit my 2015 Vision Board goals. In fact, I update and add to it quarterly. I treat it like a living document to help me stay focused and accomplish my objectives.  So, last weekend, I fulfilled another aspiration when I attended my first WordCamp Philly 2015.

WordCamp Philly 2015

What is a WordCamp Philly 2015?  I am glad you asked.  The Girl Develop It  (a gender specific diversity group that teaches women about HTML and CSS coding) website provides the perfect description.  A Word Camp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress.  Word Camps are informal, affordable, community-organized events that are put together by Word Press users. This year was the fifth year for the camp with 300 people in attendance.

Now what is WordPress?  WordPress is web software that I use to create my blog.  The template WordPress offers is free, the cost comes with someone to host your website blog. It is like paying rent for your space on the internet.  It is the most popular blogging system in use on the Web at more than 60 million websites/blogs.

Now that you know more about WordPress for those that are not bloggers. I was impressed with the WordPress camp right down to my black bean burger option for lunch. Someone spent time creating a logo for the function, the identification badge provided included everything you needed to know to attend the various classes scheduled.

I choose the novice track to better acquaint myself with the inner workings of the Dashboard. Because of the generosity of the sponsors, Bluehost, Jetpack, WiredTree, Go Daddy and DreamHost the day-long camp was only $20.00 which included lunch and snacks.

When I started blogging in 2013, I knew very little about blogging and social media. Who knew this venture would be so informative and great for making new connections? My hubby accompanied me to the camp and was allowed to sit in on my classes even though he didn’t register.
