WOmen of Grace 2

Please allow me to introduce you to a new series on my blog called, Women of Grace.  As you know, Age of Grace focuses on fifty-something Baby Boomers doing their best to age gracefully.  Not only aging gracefully, but healthy, fit, stylish and spiritually mature.

Jeannie W 1Jeannie W. of Gracefully 50 blog with her pet, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Tobi.

Today, I am featuring Jeannie W, fellow blogger, Gracefully 50. Jeannie was the first non-family or friend to comment on my blog earlier this year, I was so excited to receive this comment and meet a new friend in cyber space. I found Jeannie from a list of similar blogs, I posted a comment on Jeannie’s blog, Gracefully 50 and she responded back to me on my blog, and the rest is history!  I admire that Jeannie is truly an inspiration at 50 something, she looks great, doesn’t have any health issues and maintains a nice size.  Jeannie has been blogging at Gracefully 50 August 2011.

Let’s get up close and personal with Jeannie, shall we?  Jeannie is a wife, happily married to her best friend since 1984, mother of two wonderful grown children, grateful daughter of Korean parents and most important a work-in progress Christian.

1. Your inspiration to start your blog, Gracefully 50 was because you and your husband became “empty nesters” since you started your blog, what inspires your outfit posts?

My inspiration comes from my mood and nature.  I tend to dress according to my mood more than anything.  If I’m wearing black, you’d just better stay far away from me.  Also, because I’m surrounded by God’s beauty, I look at nature for color inspirations.  I love God’s color scheme so I do copy His glorious work sometimes.

 2.  You mention that you would like to receive the ‘most chic granny award’ even though your are not yet a grandmother, how would you describe your fashion sense? Has it changed over the years?

Yes, it has changed!  When kids were home, my favorite go to outfits were sweats and t-shirts.  As a busy working mom, I didn’t have the energy to worry about my looks.  Since all I did was running around for kid’s sports and activities, comfort was my #1 priority.  Now that I have more time for myself, I’ve been having fun expressing my style and experimenting with trends.  I call my style “classic with a sprinkle of fun.”  Who knew that being a 50+ empty nester would bring out the “fashionista wannabe” out of me? haha

3.  What is the one beauty product you can’t do without?

Moisturizer!  As I age, I’m noticing my facial skin becoming more dry & wrinkly.   I’m religious about moisturizing.   I guess I’m a moisturizer addict!  Name it, I’ve tried it!

4.  Has your beauty regime changed over the years?  What is different since you turned 50?

I’m definitely more conscious about cleansing and moisturizing now that I’m fighting to keep my wrinkles from spreading too fast.  I also drink plenty of water.  I hear hydration is essential to healthy skin.  And, unlike my foolish college day of baby oil and tanning,  I’m a big fan of sunscreen…better late than never!

5.  Many women gain weight in their middle as one ages because of hormonal changes, what tips do you have for staying slim?

Eat healthy and exercise!  In my humble opinion, there are no quick or easy way to keep those extra pounds from latching on to you.  I stay away from sodas, fried foods and products with chemical preservatives.  Well….I’m not successful all the time, but I try.

6.  What type of exercise regime do you maintain?

It varies.  Sometimes it’s just waking my dog, or if I have more time, I do kettle bell workouts or weight training.  I also run or just do some sprints up the hill.  For me, it works best to mix it up to prevent boredom.

7. How has your faith contributed to your attitude toward life as you have grown older?

I firmly believe that your physical & emotional health starts with a healthy inner being.  My faith provides me with peace…an inner peace that can only come from Him.  In this stressful world, I cannot imagine a life without my Savior’s grace.  Although I’m undeserving, I’m ever so grateful for His love and blessings.

Thanks, Jeannie! I would like to tell your story.  If you are interested in being featured in the Women of Grace series, email so we can get started at eugenia@theageofgrace.com!
